An April 23 Message

Tomorrow, on the 24th of April, and on every day of the year, the voice of Armenians will ring loud and clear: The only meaningful basis for dialogue between Turkey and Armenians is Ankara’s formal acknowledgment of the Armenian Genocide and full acceptance of its moral and material responsibilities to the Armenian nation.

It’s clear to all that Turkey’s leaders, today, seek only a superficial discourse, a discussion without substance.  An illusion of dialogue that will serve, they hope, as a substitute for true progress.  A clever trick to defer international recognition, further consolidate their genocidal gains, and delay the day when the Turkish state and society must reckon for their sins.

The dialogue that we as Armenians seek – truly the only discussion that can lead to an enduring peace – must begin with the terms of a just and comprehensive international response to Turkey’s genocide against the Armenian people, the surrender by Ankara of the fruits of its genocidal crimes, and guarantees for the future safety and security of the Armenian homeland.

The ANCA is working to end U.S. complicity in Turkey’s denial of the Armenian Genocide, and toward a principled American policy in support of a truthful and just resolution of this crime that requires the government of Turkey to meet its full moral and material obligations to the Armenian nation. Donate to the ANCA Telethon today to strengthen the cause for Armenian Genocide Justice.
